In 1964 THC was discovered at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel by Dr. Raphael Mechoulam.

American researcher Allyn Howelett and her graduate student William Devane discovered the first cannabinoid receptors in the brain in 1988. They names them cannabinoid 1 receptors (CB1).

In 1993 scientists found cannabinoid receptors in the immune system (CB2).

So far there have been five endocannabinoids disovereed, although as far as medicinal value, the first two found appear to have the most importance.

Scientist have since realized that CB1 receptors are round mostly  on neurons in the spinal cord, brain, and peripheral nervous system.  This very reason explains the role of cannabinoid in pain modulation, memory processing, and motor control.

CB2 receptors are located mainly in immune cells such as the spleen and tonsils.

CBD interacts with our bodies in a variety of ways. One of the main ways it impacts us is by mimicking and augmenting the effects of the compounds in our bodies called “endogenous cannabinoids” - so named because of their similarity to the compounds found in the cannabis plant. These “endocannabinoids” are part of a regulatory system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

The ECS is involved with the regulation of appetite, pain, memory, mood, and movement in the human body.

Homeostasis is exteremely important when it comes to the biology of all living things.

Homeostasis is the ability to maintain stable internal conditions that are needed for survival of optimal health.

Disease, in its simplest form is merely a result of some aspect of inability of the body to achieve homeostasis.

The ECS works by sending one neuron to another.

Cannabis and the CB1 receptor has been found useful for:

  • Anxiety and Stress
  • Increase in Euphoria and Feelings of Happiness
  • Coping with Chronic Pain

Cannabis and CB2 receptors have been found to have a positive affect for:

  • Boosting the Immune System
  • Coping with Alzheimers disease

Phytocannabinoids are contained within plants.

THC and CBD are two types of phytocannabinoids.

Endocannabinoids are found in the human body naturally.

Plot - Cannabinoids and the Endocannabinoid System

World renowned scientist have discovered the effects of CBD are caused by it’s stimulation of the CB2 receptor site in our bodies; this ultimately tells our bodies to balance themselves by increasing this process or decreasing those signals & hormones.
